Qual é melhor usar (ntpd ou ntpdate)?

Pessoal,

Acabei colocar um post pedindo ajuda para fazer funcionar o NTP e gostaria de aproveitar para tirar uma dúvida. Nas pesquisas que realizei no Mr. Google encontrei diversos artigos falando sobre NTP.

Alguns artigos falam para utilizar o daemon ntpd outros para utilizar o comando ntpdate. Realmente com o comando ntpdate é muito mais fácil mas pelo que entendi utilizando dessa forma você terá um client NTP e não um servidor NTP, correto?

Gostaria de saber a opinião de vocês. Qual é mais aconselhável utilizar? O daemon ntpd ou o comando ntpdate?

como vc mesmo disse, usando o ntpdate vc é o cliente atualizando a data e hora, o ntpd é usado quando você tem um servidor ntp...

se vc quiser montar um servidor NTP dá um alô q eu te ajudo...

só agora respondendo me lembrei que ia fazer um tutorial no wiki.. heheh

Vai depender do que você deseja. Se pretende manter sincronizado o relógio de apenas uma maquina (Desktop ou Server) eu recomendo utilizar apenas o "ntpdate", ele é um cliente leve na tarefa de sincronizar o relógio.
Mas se o seu caso for uma rede local com muitas ou poucas maquinas, nesse caso eu manteria um serviço de "ntpd" na minha rede local sem pensar duas vezes.

Ontem (31/05) eu levantei, para efeito de teste, o ntp. Ele até que funcionou bem.
Agora gostaria de ajuda em uma coisa: eu quero que somente as máquinas da minha rede possam consultar e sincronizar o horário nesse meu servidor.
Abaixo estou enviando o meu ntp.conf

pra testar o servidor ntp vc digita no servidor "ntpq -p" ae ele vai mostrar os servidores q ele está utilizando para atualizar a hora..

no cliente vc usa o ntpdate + endereço do seu servidor, se vc quiser ver informações sobre seu servidor vc usa "ntpdate -d + endereço do servidor"
