    Bom nao eh dificil isso ... apenas tenha em mente que voce prescisa do kernel , kernel-* , onde * eh boot, enterprise entre outros voce nao prescisa para sua maquina maquina desktop

    BOOT - usado em disketes de boot
    doc - documentacao (ohhh)
    enterprise - maquinas com > 4gb ram
    smp - 2 proc ou mais

    Para uma maquina desktop, do que eu precisaria então dentre todos esses ai?

    Eu não entendi muito bem sober esse smp, será que poderia me explicar também sobre o secure? Acho que você esqueceu.

    o pacote secure adiciona ao kernel mais opções de segurança às suas ja existentes, tipow... naum conheco mto bem quais seriam essas opções, e o link q ele indica soh pra ajudar esta quebrado hehe

    o smp eh um outro kernel q eh usado quando vc tem uma placa q possua dois processadores, esse kernel possui uma estrutura diferente, uma vez instalado ele identifica as cpus e quebra o processamento entre os dois processadores existentes (mais ou menos)

    smp eh um topico interessante, usado com frequencia em servidores, acho q vale ateh uma pesquisa no google

    Secure eh apenas o kernel compilado com o patch da grsecurity, ou seja, um harderned kernel ... em outras palavras, um kernel mas seguro, proprio para servidor, que nao vale a pena rodar em casa.

    o BOOT eu jah expliquei.

    Como eu havia dito antes... para uma maquina desktop voce so prescisa do kernel.

    Se eu não tenho o pacote: kernel-2.4.21.0.25mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm instalado na maquina, eu instalo ele através do comando rpm -i kernel-2.4.21.0.25mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm ou através do comando: rpm -Uvh kernel-2.4.21.0.25mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm?

    Na boa, rpm funciona assim

    -i = install
    -U = upgrade
    -v = verbose
    -h = hash

    O certo seria voce instalar o kernel com rpm -ivh mas isso nao funciona assim.. voce sempre instala o kernel com rpm -Uvh, pois eh sempre um upgrade, de modo a nao apagar o kernel antigo... pois alguma coisa der errada voce ainda tem como bootar o sistema no kernel antigo.
