Ubuntu 7.10 apt-get nao funciona

RESOLVIDO!

O que eu fiz foi utilizar o VMware player 3, a nova versao, que permite criar imagens a partir de cd ou ficheiro iso.
E baixei o ubuntu 9.10 e estou a ultiliza-lo no VMware!

Obrigado na mesa pela ajuda e espero que o que esta a baixo e o que disse agora ajudem alguem.

Estou a usar o ubuntu 7.10 no VMware player [em windows vista] e nao consigo instalar nenhum pacote.
Alem disso estou na faculdade onde tenho de passar por um proxy.

estou a fazer "sudo apt-get install snmpd"
mensagem de erro >

ja tentei apt-get update e tambem na funciona.

e a net da, usando o proxy no firefox.
ah nao consigo pingar enderecos de fora!

tive ja ai a ver alguns posts mas nada funcionou comigo.

e que preciso instalar o snmpd pra um trabalho e nao consigo.
e nao queria instalar o ubuntu por agora que nao estou a usar o me PC

se o proxy for transparente e não houver nenhuma restrição vc não vai encontrar problemas...

o que pode estar acontecendo é que por ser a versão 7.04 os repositórios não estejam atualizados não existam mais ou não estão habilitados.

o que vc deve fazer é editar o arquivo "/etc/apt/sources.list" e descomentar alguns repositórios
ou trocar esses repositórios por novos.

caso isso não funcione:

eu estou usando o ubuntu 9.04 para vc ter uma base meu sources.list esta assim:

faça um backup de seu arquivo atual e troque o conteudo por este acima, depois:

depois tente instalar o pacote desejado!

vc pode tentar instalar o libc6

apt-get install libc6

antes da uma confirida nos pacotes que derivam desse libc6, me parece que variam de acordo com a arquitetura do processador.

 apt-cache search libc6

e depois tentar instalar novamente o snmpd

e depois destes desinstale o snmpd e instale de novo.

ocorre o erro ao fazer update, upgrade, instalar qualquer coisa, inclusive instalar os referidos libc6-......
mas ja resolvi o assunto como ta descrito no inicio do topico.
